Um Dereha Women

success story

In the area of Um Dureha, many girls begin their day before sunrise, setting out on a long journey to fetch water and collect firewood. These daily tasks take hours of effort, and as time passes the school day ends, leaving classroom seats far from the dreams of many of these girls.

In this environment, the team from Sawa Sudan Organization reached the community and began by listening to the girls’ voices and understanding the challenges they face every day. From there, a training program on natural resource protection and environmental conservation was launched, targeting 80% women and 20% men, with the aim of strengthening knowledge, building capacities, and opening new opportunities for women to participate in issues affecting their communities. Over time, the participants gained skills and knowledge that strengthened their role within the community. They became part of the efforts to protect the environment and raise awareness about the importance of natural resources, turning their experiences into stories of strength and influence within their communities.

On International Women’s Day, we celebrate them and every woman who creates change from the heart of challenges.
